I can’t believe Thanksgiving is less than a week away!! It is definitely one of my top 3 favorite holidays. I love the traditions we have, the food, the time with family, and hopefully this year I will love the weather…fingers crossed for a cold front next week! My mom hosts 90% of the time and this year is no different. We will probably go over there first thing in the morning for mimosas, to watch the parade, and then help her cook it up. Every year I make sweet potato casserole and it is always a hit. What are you doing for the holiday? If you are by chance hosting and still need some ideas you have come to the right place. I have a feeling most of this post will be food 🙂 Let’s get started shall we?…
Favorite Cocktail: Our tradition every Thanksgiving is to start the day with mimosas, breakfast, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. We of course drink the traditional champs & OJ mimosa but I would be interested to try a new fall version. These Cranberry Mimosas look festive and I happen to have a bag of cranberries in my fridge because my husband thought cranberries would be something he would want to eat by themselves. He realized that nope they aren’t. Ha!
Favorite Appetizer: Speaking of cranberries I saw these Cranberry & Brie Bites and they look delicious! My mom has made a brie & jelly appetizer quite a few times and it melts in your mouth. I want to eat these right now!
Favorite Tablescape: Decorating your tables for Thanksgiving is a time where you can get so creative. You can have all tables look the same or have different themes for each table. I wanted to include a few different sites with ideas so click here, and here for beautiful table design ideas. I also wanted to include some place card ideas as well. So many beautiful options!
Favorite Side Dish: Every year I make the sweet potato casserole for Thanksgiving. By no means is it my own personal recipe but I of course take the compliments every year. I finally found the recipe I use online so now everyone can make it and enjoy!
Favorite Sweet Treat: Like I said above I knew this post would be mostly food. I mean it’s Thanksgiving, the best food holiday of the year! One of my favorite desserts that my mom makes are these Pecan Pie Bites. They are the perfect size and have so much flavor. Oh my goodness I can’t wait for next Thursday!!
In lieu of doing a ‘Friday Favorites’ post today I decided to post about my Halloween instead 🙂 This year I was a Rockford Peach from one of the best movies ever, A League of Their Own. If you have never seen that movie stop what you are doing and go watch it right now! I have to say this year I got so many compliments about my costume so I made a good choice! I have wanted to buy this costume for a couple years now and glad I finally did. In the morning I went to Sunny’s school for her Halloween parade and trunk-or-treat. She was dressed up as Princess Anna riding a unicorn….adorable as always.
After work my mom picked me up and we met Sunny & her mom, Paige, at Spookyville in Yesteryear Village at the fairgrounds. The weather was perfect, it wasn’t too busy, and Sunny had a great time. It is a really nice set up as an alternate for trick-or-treating around the neighborhood for kids who may be too scared of going house to house. They have rides, arts & crafts, yummy food, and trick-or-treating. It was another successful Halloween 🙂
This was my best reading month yet…I read 10 books! I had a week off of work this month and it was a staycation full of reading. To be fair a few of the books were very short but still 10 books is pretty good. I also read a ton of different genres this month & completed eight books in my reading challenge. I have 12 themes left so I am going to be cutting it close but I am confident I can get it done. I’ve decided next year I am going to skip the reading challenge or maybe find shorter one so that I can read more books on my TBR list. Here are my stats for October:
- Read 10 books
- 2,461 pages read
- 2 Fiction; 1 Classics; 1 Historical Fiction; 1 Romance, Erotica; 1 Crime Fiction; 1 Poetry; 1 Young Adult; 1 Graphic Novel; 1 Mystery/Thriller/Suspense
- Challenge Themes Completed:
A book with a place in the title
A graphic novel
A book from your childhood
A book of poetry
A book set in your hometown or region
A self published book
A book translated from another language
A book you read in school
Below are the books I read this month, click on the book cover to be directed to my review 🙂
Only two more months left in 2017!!! All I can say is WOW! This year has flown by and I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store. In this post you will find the challenge list, some ideas for each day’s prompt and then the list with it’s corresponding hashtags so you can use those on Instagram, Facebook, & Twitter if you would like. If you need a refresher on how to play/where to post your pictures click here. If you would like to see my pictures from October you can find them in my October Photo A Day album. A few weekends ago we all went to Bedner’s Farm Fresh Market for their Fall festival and slacker me totally forgot to post about it! My cousin Danielle and her sons were in town for the weekend so I had the idea to take them and Sunny to Bedner’s….not sure everyone was happy with my choice, haha. I think the kids definitely had fun but oh my goodness not only was it insanely busy but it was soooooo hot out. We were all dying! The kids got to play in some bounces houses, pet some cute animals, ride a horse, go in the corn maze, and take a hay ride so as long as they had fun it was worth it. Plus I LOVED everything about it, heat or not. Maybe next year we should check the weather and go on a day when it is cool. The past couple days here would have been the perfect time to go. You live and learn! 🙂
